The House of Starry Wisdom |
Starry WisdomThe Lodges
of the Order of the Trapezoid generally--but not always--have a geographic center.
How do the Houses of the Order of the Trapezoid differ from Lodges? Houses--also
dubbed HyperLodges--function as vehicles for the teaching obligations of Masters
of the Temple, as a home for advanced studies, and as tools for the development
and refinement of the Knighthood. A House is a school within the Order of the
Trapezoid, having a thematic center.
The House of Starry Wisdom
works with historical, mythological and neomythological studies, geometric concepts
and other components of the spectrum of the Trapezoid. The coherence of this
mix arises from the core subject of Starry Wisdom studies: the night sky and
its historical, philosophic and initiatory impact on the origin, development
and possible future of the psyche.
While this thematic core
can be seen as several distinct bands split by the analytic prism of the Trapezoid,
it is also reflected in the legacy the Temple of Set claims for its own. The
ancient stellar cult of Set -- attested to by archeological accounts of the
unique tombs of the Setian Pharaohs and by Lockyer's descriptions of Egyptian
astro-architecture -- remains part of our modern conception of the Prince of
Darkness.
The name of the House comes
from a fictional cult in H.P. Lovecraft's short story The Haunter of the Dark.
The cult possessed a stone, the Shining Trapezohedron, through which they received
hidden and unearthly knowledge.
What goals are pursued by the Knight working under the auspices of Starry Wisdom?
What methods and approaches does the Knight employ in this quest?
Methods will evolve, new ones will be devised and ineffective ones discarded,
as befits a pragmatic path directed towards the unknown regions without and
within. Knights of the Trapezoid who pursue these studies forge a new understanding
of the Angles. This understanding will have an impact beyond the boundaries
of the Order and the Temple. Such a result is in keeping with the nature of
knighthood and the quest for undefiled wisdom.
Some who saw the Temple of Set mainly as philosophic heir of the Church of Satan
have been puzzled by parts of the Temple's reading list—"unmagical"
books on measure, on time and space, on the future. It is the mission of the
House of Starry Wisdom to foster initiatory study of these topics, leading to
insights—and deeds—of a novel and transformative nature, furthering
the Aeon.
