The Aurora Borealis Lodge

Scandinavia, Europe
22 March XXXIII AeS
by Sir Tapio

The Aurora Borealis Lodge of the Order of the Trapezoid was founded in Munich, Germany, during the Set XVIII by Sir Hassein and Sir Tapio from Finland and Sir Megrez from Sweden.

Aims of The Aurora Borealis Lodge

  1. To make any desired facet of the Constellation of the Trapezoid an accessible and viable initiatory tool for
Scandinavian Knights of the Order of the Trapezoid. Knights of the Lodge seek to use as many aspects of Trapezoidal Initiation as they may find meaningful in their Work and they seek to share that Work with other interested Setians.
  2. To further and to protect the Workings of the Order of the Trapezoid and the Temple of Set in Scandinavia via real magie.
  3. To enrich and strenghten the Order of the Trapezoid via exploration and (re)creation of Scandinavian cultural systems (traditional/ modern, mythological/neomythological).

The main source of inspiration for the Lodge are the Northern Lights. As a natural phenomena, northern lights are Nature's own gigantic light-show, consuming up to a million megawatts of power (approximately the power generating capacity of the US). The phenomena can be seen on the northern and southern horizon if circumstances are right.

To put it most simply, the Northern Light occurs when the particles from the sun are thrown against the earth by the solar wind. When the particles collide with the earth's atmosphere, the energy of the particles are turned into light, the Northern Light.

Scientific knowledge on the norhtern lights is still fairly new. Before modern particle physics was developed and knowledge about the earths magnetosphere was gained via measurements from satellites, there were many beliefs and myths about the phenomena.

There have been detailed descriptions and explanations on the phenomena of Aurora Borealis from before the beginning of the common era. Aristotle wrote in his Metereologia, that the northern lights are a light which is similar to the flames of burning gas. If these flames spread and at the same time sent out sparks and rays, they were called jumping goats. Without such rays, they were called simply fire.

The northern lights have been subject of wonder. They have they inspired artists. They have also scared people into thinking that the end of the world, or at least hard times (such as plague or war) were at hand.
During the Middle-Ages in Europe, the northern lights were thought to be a reflection of the battle of the heavenly warriors or ride of the valkyries. It was thought that if a warrior had given his life for his king and country he was rewarded by allowing to fight on the night sky forever. The northern lights was seen as the breath of these brave soldiers as they resumed their fight in the skies.

Knights of the Aurora Borealis Lodge seek to draw inspiration and Initiatory analogy in their Work from physics and mythology of the northern lights. Knights of the Lodge seek to bring the hailstorm of their Wills from their inner suns, their greater selves, to the objective universe and in this fashion, via divinely inspired Doing, ignite the glow of the Aurora Borealis of their own Will in the Universe.

Aurora Borealis is the glow of the state we in the Order call Walhalla. Aurora Borealis of a powerful, conscious Self can manifest in the Universe if thoughts and deeds of a Knight are resonant with his greater self in his pursuit of Willed future Self, the Grail.
